“Resource Spotlight Monday”: Today, the Gender and Identity Factors Platform (GIFP) features “Gender Equality and Violent Extremism in Libya: Research Main Findings and Recommendations”.

A collaborative effort between UN Women, Monash University, and local Libyan researchers, this study investigates the link between gender inequality and terrorism and violent extremism in Libya. For example, the study examines how gender disparities intersect with economic, political, and religious factors to fuel extremism conducive to terrorism, and how terrorist and violent extremist groups manipulate societal constructs of masculinity and femininity. Additionally, the research highlights the efforts of Libyan women in countering terrorism and preventing/countering violent extremism in their communities throughout Libya.
