“Resource Spotlight Monday”: Today, the Gender and Identity Factors Platform (GIFP) features three resources that explore the gender dynamics surrounding “manosphere” and the digital community ‘Incel’ or otherwise known involuntarily celibates. Manosphere is a network of sites, blogs and forums promoting masculinity, hostility towards women and ideas of gender equality, hatred of women. While not a new phenomenon, manosphere is linked with Manosphere is linked with groups described as “far-right” and radicalizes men to violence against women. Involuntary celibates (incels) believe they are entitled to a relationship with a woman, but are unable to find a partner, as such they are often driven by the notion of ‘revenge’. While it is an online community, in the past 10 years, multiple acts of extreme violence offline and even murder have been attributed to this group.
