This resource guides activists and practitioners to engage in reflection and dialogue on violent extremism. It comprises three sections: why gender matters; women and the dynamics of extremist violence; and engaging communities in preventing violent extremism. Interspersed between essays from academics and practitioners are exercises and resources that can be utilized by local communities in their PVE activities - such as exploring gender stereotypes, looking at spheres of influence in society, and identifying men and women’s motivations for joining VE groups. The case study ‘Women Preventing Extremist Violence’ pilot projects took place in Nigeria and Kenya.
