Civil Society’s Voices on Violent Extremism and Counter-Terrorism Responses - Regional Perspectives from Eastern and Southern Africa.

This report is informed by the contributions received from 80 civil society representatives from 33 countries in Eastern and Southern Africa. They shared their views, challenges and recommendations on the gendered dimensions of violent extremism and counter-terrorism. Recommendations are divided into three parts: for states, for CSOs, and for the UN. They include: promoting women’s rights; prosecuting women’s rights violations and SGBV crimes; transparency for PCVE and NAPs; WBO and state cooperation and accountability, advocacy for all sections of society; the UN should support CSOs and member states in gender mainstreaming, NAPS, promote youth participation, and intersectional approaches.
